Opening a High Yield Savings Account

We just opened a high yield savings account, and I don’t know why we waited so long. It felt like one of those things that would be complicated or intimidating, but it was actually the opposite. If anything, it was kind of fun knowing our money is finally doing a little work for us instead of just sitting there.

My husband and I chose the Amex high yield savings account because of the 3.3% APR. We have some big savings goals, and it only made sense to put our money somewhere it could grow while we figure out the next steps. This isn’t about getting rich overnight. It’s about being intentional with money we’re already saving.

What surprised me most was how simple the whole process was. There’s no pressure, no complicated setup, and no feeling like you’re locking your money away forever. It still feels accessible and safe, just smarter. Watching interest build over time feels like free money, and honestly, that little boost makes saving feel more motivating.

While we both share the account, I handle most of our finances, and this felt like an easy win. It didn’t require a full budget overhaul or a big lifestyle change. Just a better place to keep what we’re already setting aside.

If you have savings sitting in a regular account, this might be your sign to look into a high yield option. You don’t have to be an expert or have everything figured out. Small decisions like this add up, and they make long term goals feel a lot more doable.

Sometimes the smartest money moves are also the simplest ones!
