Honey Garlic Fried Chicken

There is nothing better than a cozy weeknight dinner that actually turns out exactly how you hoped, and this Honey Garlic Fried Chicken was one of those meals for me. I was so proud of myself, especially because the glaze was the part I was most nervous about. I feel like it always ends up too runny, but this one came out perfectly thick, glossy, and full of flavor. It coated the chicken just right without getting soggy, and the whole kitchen smelled amazing while it was simmering.

Jake and I both loved this meal, and it’s definitely going into our regular rotation. Nothing beats a plate of flavorful fried chicken with the perfect glaze. I served ours with mac n cheese, which was so good with the sweet and savory sauce. If you need something cozy, easy, and seriously delicious for a weeknight dinner, this is the one.

Ingredients

2 large chicken breasts, pounded to even thickness
Salt and pepper
1 cup buttermilk
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp paprika
Vegetable oil, for frying
¼ cup honey
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water (optional, for thickening)

Instructions

Season chicken breasts with salt and pepper. Soak in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes.
In a shallow dish, mix flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F.
Dredge chicken in the flour mixture, pressing to coat well. Fry chicken until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, combine honey, garlic, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. If desired, stir in cornstarch slurry and cook until sauce thickens.
Toss fried chicken in the honey garlic sauce or drizzle it over top before serving.
