Thanksgiving looked a little different for us this year because we were traveling. Instead of a home-cooked meal, Jake and I went to the restaurant in our hotel, where they were offering a special Thanksgiving dinner.
It wasn’t the traditional spread you usually see this time of year, but that actually made the experience more interesting. For an appetizer, we could choose between butternut squash bisque or a salad. The main course options were a pork chop, halibut, or a marinated turkey breast. And for dessert, it was either pumpkin cheesecake or an apple tartlet.
Even though it wasn’t the classic Thanksgiving plate, it was still special in its own way. Sitting together, sharing a meal, and taking a moment to slow down was a good reminder of what the holiday is really about.
This year, gratitude looks less like “perfect” and more like appreciating where we are in this season and being thankful for the simple things: a good meal, a safe place to rest, and time with the person I love.
