Christmas food opinions are serious business. Every family has their staples, their traditions, and at least one dish everyone quietly judges. So today, I’m ranking some of the most iconic Christmas foods, from absolute must-haves to the ones I could politely pass on.
1. Macaroni and Cheese
There’s just no beating it. Creamy, cheesy, comforting, and always the first dish to disappear. If mac and cheese isn’t on the table, something feels off. It’s a crowd-pleaser for kids and adults alike and earns its spot at the top every time.
2. Mashed Potatoes
Reliable. Cozy. Essential. Mashed potatoes are the backbone of the Christmas plate, especially when they’re smooth, buttery, and swimming in gravy. They go with everything and never let you down.
3. Honey Glazed Ham
Classic for a reason. The sweet-and-salty combo, the crispy edges, the leftovers. Ham brings major holiday energy. It’s not flashy, but it’s solid and deserves respect.
4. Sweet Potato Soufflé
This one sparks debate, but I love it. The sweet, fluffy texture paired with that crunchy topping makes it feel like a side dish and dessert in one. It’s rich, indulgent, and very much a holiday-only treat.
5. Stuffing (or Dressing)
Stuffing is comforting and nostalgic, but it can be hit or miss depending on who made it. When it’s good, it’s really good. When it’s dry… well, you know. Still a Christmas staple, just not my top pick.
6. Green Bean Casserole
I know this is controversial. It’s a classic, but it’s also the dish that usually has leftovers. I’ll take a small scoop for tradition’s sake, but it’s not what I’m going back for seconds of.
