Love, Marriage, and Hockey: Our Goal to Visit All 32 NHL Arenas

When Jake and I planned our honeymoon, we didn’t pick a beach or a resort – we picked hockey games. Hockey has become a big part of our relationship, and now one of our long-term goals is to see all 32 NHL arenas together.

Jake’s been a fan for a long time, and I only got into it because of him. It stuck, though, probably because hockey is fast and exciting! I am a big fan of the Hurricanes, and Jake’s loyal to Colorado, but he cheers for the Canes too (as long as they’re not playing the Avs). It makes watching games together more interesting, especially when our teams face off. Even our engagement pictures were hockey-themed; we had me in a Canes jersey and Jake in an Avs one!

Our honeymoon ended up being two weeks of hockey and travel. We started in Denver for a game and also checked out a couple of museums. From there we went to Seattle, where we did the Space Needle and Pike Place Market before heading to the arena. We finished in Vegas, and that arena was hands-down the loudest place I’ve ever been. The music was so intense we could feel it in our chests. It was crazy and honestly unforgettable. We probably won’t go back for another game there, but I’m glad we experienced it once!

Since then, we’ve been to four Hurricanes games because Raleigh is close enough for a drive. Each time just makes us want to keep going. Our hope is to slowly check off every arena, not just for the games but for the chance to see new places together. It’s one of those goals that will take time, but we’re excited to keep at it!

Comment below which team you root for! (Bonus points if it’s the Canes!)
